Sonoran desert flora is so efficient and imaginative in its use of scarce resources. Photosynthesis actually takes place in the bark of the blue palo verde tree. The color is a luminous silvery greenish blue that is sometimes called silver sage. The blue palo verde is a bit like a unicorn compared with a horse.
