WAKAN TANKA
Corn Goddess Headdress

This piece is built on a metal structure that I adapted with a wrench. I used yarn, fibers, beads, and dried floral elements to create a wearable sculpture. The piece reaches up to the heavens but is grounded by yarn braids entwined with bells. I worked tirelessly to find beads reminiscent of corn kernels. I find it perfect for wearing while chanting for the earth to the accompaniment of my grandson, Abe’s, drumming. You can see this on Instagram/harrietcheney27. The piece makes its own sounds. I can easily see it as part of a tribal rite.
