“Beshert” is a Yiddish word that refers to any fortuitous event, but is most often used to mean a soulmate.  When I made this piece, I tried to imagine myself as a young Ukrainian girl, dreaming about her future husband and sewing this for her hope chest. My intention was for it to convey innocence, delicacy, and hope.
